Something about music!

The children we work with have different ways of connecting and relating to their environments. Some prefer staying within their familiar thoughts to interacting with others, after all, communicating and interacting is a complex process that can be overwhelming.

Sometimes, a child enters and appears distant. Speaking in words might not connect with them in the most straightforward manner.

However when the opening notes of the familiar greeting song is sung or played, we can see how they attune progressively to their therapist, and to the session. It is a wonderful thing to see and experience interactions that occur in music.

It is a strong reminder to us all that behind the veils of a diagnosis, is a unique individual who seeks to connect, to communicate.
